Andrea Swartzendruber Andrea began working
at the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention in 1997 in the Division
of HIV/AIDS Prevention where she worked both on domestic and international
projects to prevent and mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS. Domestically,
she has worked to design and evaluate behavioral interventions to reduce
risk behaviors and prevent HIV transmission among injection drug users.
Internationally, her focus has been children and families in areas heavily
affected by HIV/AIDS. In particular, she has conducted research and contributed
to many projects to address the needs of children orphaned by AIDS in
Africa. She currently works in the Global AIDS Program at CDC to prevent
mother-to-child transmission of HIV in resource-poor countries all over
the world, but particularly in Africa. Andrea received her masters degree
in international health and epidemiology from Emory University.
